Easter bunny

My 9 year old students were excited to draw the Easter bunny, especially with some colorful eggs at the background. The detailed work in water color was painstaking for them at this age, but the outcome was satisfying.

Pencil artwork

I picked up the Book Drawing for Dummies by Hoddinott Brenda from the library. I'm a big fan of the Dummies series. This book has one of the clearest instructions that produce excellent result. I tried my hands on a few projects...

Display at the library

I was able to secure a slot in December 2009 with the Shoreview Library to display some of the students art work and Corynn's portfolio as well. It was very well received by the people who work there as well as many visiting parents and children. I have received a lot of phone calls and compliments as well. One librarian said that this display cheer up the corner at the library. It was well worth the effort.

pointillism-painting with dots

Dinosaur by Ethan Kurland, 5 years old

Butterfly by Diana Zhu, 8 years old

This is the project greatly enjoyed by all the students of all age group. The objectives of this project/ lesson are for student to use the technique of pointillism and applies contrasting colors to create a vibrant piece of artwork.

Pointillism is an original form of art created by George Seurat. Pointillism is a bunch of tiny dots formed together to make a picture. When two colors are next to each other, your eye mixes them and that is called optical mixing. Using optical mixing instead of physically mixing can make a brighter picture.

Seurat’s “A Sunday in the Park” took him two years to complete, covers a wall (81 inches by 120 inches) and has about 3,456,000 dots! If you are ever in Chicago, go to the Art Institute and check out this painting. It’s awesome!

more students..

2 new students came as the result of my flyers distribution at the community center. That was the last flyer that I put on a black Mercedes Benz...and they came:)

These 2 very active girls requested to draw a dolphin and they each came up with their own versions with the analogous sunset background too!

the youngest artist

Ethan, 5 years old, is the youngest student I have. He did his first fish drawing in oil pastel and tempera. His mom was so pleased with her son's talent:)

Ethan is proud of his work, so are his parents.
My first student is a 3rd grader from across the street. Her mom's enthusiastic respond to my invitation was really encouraging. We did an African plain sunset for our first free trial lesson.

Haley is pleased with her completed art work.

Creative Canvas was ready to start its first baby step middle of November 2009. Rachael helped to work on the logo in the computer and my friend Katy helped to edit my flyer. Corynn, my other daughter was willing to give me pointers while my sister Sharon was a strong support for my start up. I have also got some frames from IKEA to hang up mostly Corynn's art work in the art room/classroom.
